The IPTV and QuickTime versions of class archive files included in this service are streamed via the West Virginia University Libraries IPTV servers and require a broadband connection using Internet Explorer to play correctly (cable modem speed or greater).  The Windows Media version should play over most dial up connections (56k modems or better).

We recommend that you download the IPTV Player as it provides a number of functions not available with QuickTime (detachability, full screen, etc.)  If the video doesn't play, it is likely to be the result of security settings on your PC, your in-house router, or your local LAN.

To use the IPTV player plug-in you must open UDP Ports 20,000 through 55,000.

To use QuickTime you must open UDP ports 6970 through 6999.

To use the Windows Media Version you will need a 56k modem or above.

If you have installed Windows XP service pack 2, you should be prompted to open these ports.  If you are using an earlier version of Windows you may need to temporarily turn off 'firewall' protection. Most broadband Internet Service Providers leave these ports open.  If you have an in-house router you may need to contact your ISP to find out how to open these ports.  Most routers may be reconfigured using a web based interface provided by the ISP.

Note:  Some of our users have reported that the QuickTime version will not play when the Real Player is installed.  You may need to uninstall the Real Player and reinstall QuickTime.

If you have met all of the above requirements, and you still cannot get the audio\video file to play, the Library Systems Office maintains a help desk at 304-293-4040 X 4015-4017.
