2. Subject databases

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject database. Subject databases specialize in a particular subject, and the articles databaseed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:

ABI/Inform
databases articles in business-related subjects such as management, finance, and advertising
Historical Abstracts
databases articles in world history
Web of Science
The Web of Science includes Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index, and is made available with funding from the WVU Research Corp. Web of Science provides seamless access to current and retrospective multidisciplinary information from approximately 8,700 of the most prestigious, high impact research journals in the world.
