Two Types of Article databases
Which article database to use depends upon your topic.

1. General Article databases

  •  Is your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
  •  Currently in the news?

If so, start with one of the general article databases. These cover a wide range of subjects and often database a mixture of popular and scholarly sources. This is often a good place to begin research. Examples of general databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:

Academic Search Complete
databases articles from magazines and journals on a range of topics from 1987 to the present. Most are full text.
ProQuest Historical Newspapers
contains the full digital images of the New York Times, 1851-1999, and the Wall Street Journal, 1889-1985.
Lexis Nexis
databases articles from magazines and newspapers on many topics, from 1980 to present. Most are full text.
