Please note: this outline is intended to help those working on papers at the undergraduate level. If you are an undergraduate with a more advanced research project or a graduate student with a specialized topic, please ask at the Reference Desk for assistance with more advanced searches.

Finding full-text articles quickly:

The WVU Libraries provide WVU students, staff, and faculty:

  • searchable databases of full-text articles (electronic versions of content originally in print)
    • from your own place
      -- access from anywhere you have Internet access and a web browser
    • at your own pace
      -- available 24-7 -- whenever you need it

Follow these 3 steps...

(1) Choose a database

  • Select one of the databases below
  • From off-campus, you will need to log on

Databases

Academic Search Premier
(EBSCOHost)
     (not entirely full text -but you can limit your search to full text 
      by selecting "Full Text Only" at the search screen)
  • For magazine articles
    these databases include popular titles such as Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek, and People
  • For peer reviewed journals
    click on the option "Peer Reviewed" before performing your search to limit your search to scholarly titles such as American Journal of Botany and Journal of Popular Culture
Lexis-Nexis
(entirely full-text)
  • For newspaper articles
    includes titles like WVU's own Daily Athenaeum, New York Times, and thousands of articles from the Associated Press wires
  • For transcripts
    includes radio, television, and political transcripts

(2) Find your articles

  • Once you have selected a database and are connected to it, enter your topic in the search box
  • View the results list
  • Click on the title or the "full-text" link to read the article

(3) Read and save your articles

  • While reading the article you may
    • Print it
    • Save it to a disk or to your computer
    • Email it to yourself
