Welcome

The West Virginia University Libraries play a vital role in the intellectual life of the state’s flagship university. Our libraries – the Downtown Campus Library, Charles C. Wise Jr. Library, Math Library, Evansdale Library, and Health Sciences Library – strive daily to serve our diverse university community.

We assist students, faculty, and staff in disciplines from music, theater, and art to chemistry, physics, and engineering. We work with the freshman writing his first college paper and the doctoral student focusing on major research; we are here for the international student from around the globe and the first-generation college student from rural Appalachia.

Meeting their needs first requires knowledgeable librarians and staff. We must also be continuously enhancing our collections with the latest books, journals, electronic databases, and other research materials. We’re proud to be able to offer our users nearly 1.6 million printed volumes, 2.3 million microforms, more than 24,000 electronic journals, and computers with high-speed Internet access.

Generous support from our friends has been essential for the WVU Libraries to reach this point, and help from our friends is crucial in maintaining this momentum and enhancing our collections and resources. Although WVU is a public institution, roughly one-third of our budget comes from the state, and tuition and fees provide another third. We count on private support to supply the remainder.

We are looking for library advocates who share our commitment to students and also believe that the WVU Libraries are critical to the University’s mission to prepare future generations of leaders.
