Research Assistance

Ask A Librarian
The Libraries offer phone, e-mail, and live IM chat reference services in addition to in-person assistance at Library Reference Desks. Research consultations or questions regarding Library collections and services can be posed by the means most convenient for you.

Borrowing privileges
At the Downtown Campus and Evansdale Libraries, the loan period for faculty is one semester. The Health Sciences Library loans their books for 2 weeks.

Renewing books
Books may be renewed online (up until the day before they are due) or in-person. To renew online, go into MountainLynx and select the “Patron “ button at the top of the screen. Log in using your WVU ID number (700 #) and last name. Click the box under “Renew?” for those items you wish to renew and select the “Renew Item” button. Once a year, books must be physically returned to the library for renewal.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
ILLiad is the software used by the Interlibrary Loan Department to speed requests to other libraries. Each user creates an account in ILLiad with a username and password of their own choosing. The ILLiad web site is used to order all ILL items, pick up electronically-delivered articles, renew loans, and update personal information.

E-ZBorrow
E-ZBorrow enables users to borrow books from more than 50 academic libraries in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New Jersey. Books generally arrive in 3-5 days. This service is for books only; articles must be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Borrowing privileges at other academic libraries
The Library participates in the "Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program" which allows faculty members to have library borrowing privileges and on-site access to the collections of some of the most important research libraries in North America. Faculty members who plan on visiting one of these libraries should request a form at any of the WVU Libraries’ Reference Desks. To see the list of participating institution, visit
http://www.libraries.wvu.edu/borrowing/reciprocal.htm

Book Express
Book Express provides intra-campus delivery of books. Faculty may have books delivered to the Library most convenient to them for pick-up. If you find an item located on another campus listed in MountainLynx , select “Request” and choose “Book Express” to request delivery. You will receive an email when the book arrives at that Library.

Depository Materials Delivery
The WVU Libraries’ collections have grown too large for the space available, and so older, little-used, books and journals have been moved to an off-site storage facility. Materials stored at the Depository may be requested through MountainLynx and are typically delivered within 24 hours. Use the “Request” button to place an order. Books will be delivered to the Library of your choice. Journal articles will be scanned and delivered electronically.

Library Cards
Your WVU faculty ID serves as your library card. It also is used when making photocopies and printing. There is a Mountie-Bounty machine, used to add value to your faculty ID, in every library.
