WVU Art History Digital Image Database (AHDID)

This collection is treated as a course reserve for WVU faculty and students and is password protected. The collection consists of images of architecture, drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, mixed media, etc. from pre-historic times to the present, and represents countries and cultures worldwide. The collection also contains maps and diagrams, as well as floor plans related to architectural sites.

There are currently almost 28,000 images in the collection. The majority of the images were digitized from the Division of Art slide collection or purchased from Saskia or Scholars Resource. In future, the majority of additions to the collection will come from Internet websites and scans from books.

In 2007, the libraries added shared web access to several external image collections including: 1) Art Images for College Teaching, 2) Battles and Leaders of the Civil War, 3) Historic Illustrations of Art & Architecture, 4) The Madison Art Collection, and 5) NASA Image eXchange (NIX). Collections may be individually or collectively searched by keyword.

Access is limited to WVU faculty who have arranged for a username and password, and to the WVU students enrolled in their courses. Students access the slideshows through a menu of instructor names, followed by a menu of available slideshow titles. A password is required.
