Rare book collections are housed at the Wise Library, the Health Sciences Library and the Law Library. The Rare Book Room at the Wise Library in the Downtown Campus Library holds significant collections of British and American literature, worldwide history, religion, philosophy, natural history, and West Virginiana. The age of these books ranges from the 1300s to the 1900s. Included among the many notable authors who are best represented in the Rare Book Room are William Shakespeare, Sir Walter Scott, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and Isaac Asimov.
Supervised access to the Rare Book Room is available by appointment to those who agree to handle materials with great care. To make arrangements to use a rare book, visit the West Virginia and Regional History Collection on the sixth floor of the Wise Library or telephone (304) 293-3536.
