Resident Borrower Policy

Who?

All West Virginia residents 18 years of age and over with a valid photo ID: (i.e. driver’s license, passport, etc. plus proof of a current WV address.)

Out of state users may apply for a nonresident card. The identification required above is also necessary.

What?

Resident borrowing privileges at WVU Libraries are available for an annual cost of $50.00. The nonresident fee is $75.00. Holders of the card may borrow up to five books for a four-week loan period and may access library electronic resources at computer workstations located within the WVU Libraries. Online authentication is required.

No family cards or institutional cards are available at this time.

Some library services, including interlibrary loan, document delivery, laptop loans, late night hours, group study rooms, access to reserve materials, (including reserve periodicals) loan of Downtown Campus Library media, and periodicals from any of the WVU Libraries, are limited to WVU students, faculty and staff and are not available to holders of resident cards.

When?

Effective July 1, 2003. Cards are valid for one year from the date of issue and are renewable on a yearly basis.

Where?

Apply in person at the Downtown Campus Library, Evansdale Library and the Health Sciences Library Access Services desks. There is a brief application form which must be completed. Following registration and payment, a card will be issued and cardholders will be given instructions on using the new authentication system for computer use.

How?

Cash and checks will be accepted as payment. A $5.00 replacement charge will apply in the case of a lost card.

Other Information:

A laminated card will be issued. A picture ID must be shown when checking out materials.

Children under the age of eighteen are eligible to use library services if a parent who has purchased a card agrees to cover any cost incurred as a result of a loan. When an application is completed by a parent who is interested in allowing under age children to use their privileges, a permission form can be completed. The Library will keep this permission form on file and will contact the adult of record if necessary.
