West Virginia University Libraries are seeking an experienced cataloging librarian to catalog materials in all formats and subject areas. Duties will also include the creation of original records and revision of records in OCLC Connexion and the WVU Libraries bibliographic database. The Cataloging Librarian is also responsible for creating local name authorities according to AACR2 and RDA and will train and advise staff in original and complex member copy cataloging. Additional duties include providing daily oversight of cataloging activities and readily sharing knowledge and expertise to resolve staff questions related to all aspects of the cataloging process. The Cataloging Librarian is expected to stay up to date on cataloging standards and provide leadership for adopting new standards. The candidate must have technical expertise to investigate and apply both traditional and innovative methods for organizing the Library's information resources. This position reports to the Head of Monographic Acquisitions and Cataloging and will work with this individual to evaluate quality of vendor records and coordinate loading of records for purchased materials as well as records for patron-driven acquisitions.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited program, knowledge of AACR2R, RDA, LCRIs, MARC 21, LCSH, LCC and other standard cataloging tools sufficient for training other catalogers. Knowledge of authority control principles and familiarity with library integrated systems required. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a team member on a variety of issues in a dynamic, production-oriented environment. Minimum of two years post-MLS professional experience in cataloging or metadata production and authorities. Experience creating NACO-compliant authority records or formal NACO training desired. Familiarity with ExLibris Voyager, Connexion Client and MarcEdit preferred. Must have ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and provide leadership in a fast-paced work environment, and knowledge of overall technical services operations and how those functions work within the library as a whole.
